Standing under the Parthenon's columns with the city sprawling below genuinely lands as a 'so this is it' moment, and the marble glows gold at the edges of the day. The honest catch: midday in summer it's a slow shuffle of thousands across blazing, shadeless rock with little signage, and the scaffolding and restoration cranes are nearly always somewhere in your photo.
