Is Monastiraki & Flea Market worth it for history buffs?

DependsFor history

For history & culture, Monastiraki & Flea Market is hit or miss.

Monastiraki is pure Athens energy: a chaotic market spilling down Ifestou and Avissinias, the Acropolis framed above the square, and great rooftop-bar views over the rooftops. The catch: it's pickpocket-y and relentlessly busy, much of the 'antique' stock is mass-made tat, and the real flea market only really comes alive on Sunday mornings.
