Barcelona's central green lung, and the read is simple: it's where you decompress between sights, not a destination you cross town for. Locals jog, picnic, drum and row little boats on the lake; the showpiece is the theatrical Cascada Monumental fountain that a young Gaudí worked on as a student, and the grounds also hold the Catalan Parliament and the city zoo. Sundays bring impromptu drum circles and slackliners. The catch: it's pleasant rather than spectacular, and weekend afternoons get busy and a touch chaotic — its value is convenience and atmosphere, layered onto a walk from the Arc de Triomf or El Born.
