The name carries enormous Cold-War weight and the nearby Mauermuseum has genuine escape artefacts. The honest catch: the checkpoint itself is now a reconstructed booth surrounded by fast-food chains, costumed 'guards' charging for photos, and souvenir stalls — widely rated Berlin's biggest tourist trap.
