For history & culture, Hackescher Markt & the Höfe is hit or miss.
The chain of decorated courtyards is genuinely charming, and the gritty Haus Schwarzenberg alley right beside the polished Höfe captures Berlin's whole tension between scruff and gloss. The catch: it's firmly the tourist-and-shopping face of Mitte now — pricey, polished, and a bit of a stag/hen-night zone after dark.
