Is Piazza della Signoria & Loggia dei Lanzi worth it in a day?
Worth itIn a day
Even on a tight schedule, Piazza della Signoria & Loggia dei Lanzi earns the hours.
Allow 20–40 minutes.
This is fundamentally an atmosphere place, and atmosphere is entirely a function of the hour. At 7–8am the Loggia dei Lanzi is yours: Cellini's Perseus and Giambologna's Sabines in raking morning light with no one between you and them, the square swept and quiet. By midday it's a selfie-stick scrum, living statues, overpriced café terraces and tour flags. After dinner it empties and re-fills with a softer evening crowd, the statues floodlit. It costs nothing and it's unavoidable — the only question is when you stand in it, and the answer is early or late, never the middle of the day.
