A truly otherworldly landscape — twisted Joshua trees, monumental boulder fields for scrambling, and some of the darkest, most spectacular night skies near LA. As a day-trip it's a long round-trip drive for a place that deserves more, and summer daytime heat is genuinely dangerous, so timing and stamina matter.
