Solo, Parque del Oeste works.
Quieter and hillier than the Retiro, with leafy paths, the Rosaleda rose garden in spring bloom and lovely sunset light by the Debod temple. The catch is there's not much to 'do' beyond walk and sit, and the rose garden only peaks in May.
