On a budget, Grand Central Terminal still earns its price.

You walk in off the street and the Main Concourse opens up like a temple — that aqua-green zodiac ceiling, the four-faced brass clock, light raking through the arched windows. The non-obvious move: climb to the East or West balcony (the one above the Apple Store) and look down — from above, the cathedral-calm holds even as the floor churns, and it's the best vantage for the ceiling. The quiet window is mid-morning or early afternoon, well outside the 8am and 5–6pm commuter crush. Then test the Whispering Gallery's tiled arches outside the Oyster Bar. Free, genuinely grand, ten minutes unless you linger.
