For nature & scenery, Palace of Versailles is hit or miss.
The Hall of Mirrors and the sheer scale of the gold are genuinely jaw-dropping; the gardens are a world unto themselves. The catch is the crowds — the state apartments can be shoulder-to-shoulder — and the half-day round trip. The gardens are where you escape it.
