The most simply beautiful neighbourhood to wander, with palace gardens, the green-domed St Nicholas, and lanes that empty out the moment you leave the bridge-to-castle artery. The catch: that main artery is a tour-group river, prices on it are inflated, and the hills are steep and cobbled. Drift two streets sideways and it's blissfully quiet.
