Libreria Acqua Alta is a real time commitment — fit it in only if it's a priority.
Allow 15–30 min.
A wonderfully eccentric bookshop where second-hand volumes are piled in a full-size gondola, bathtubs and a rowboat to survive the acqua alta, with a back 'staircase' built from waterlogged books and a canal door where cats lounge. The catch: it's tiny and now world-famous, so it's often a slow shuffling queue for a photo rather than a place to browse, and the stock is more atmosphere than treasure.
Books are stored in a gondola, bathtubs and a boat to protect them from the regular flooding that gives the shop its name ('high water'). · model-knowledge
A rear courtyard 'staircase' is built from damaged books and overlooks a small canal. · model-knowledge
